NL Module 3 & 4 Reflection
The last two modules are based of knowledge and clinical judgment, as well as priority setting frameworks. In this post, we will be going over the content, and how it relates to nursing school experiences.
Knowledge and clinical judgement was a module that was based off of making the most right choices for our patients. As a nurse, you are responsible for having a background of knowledge for a variety of reasons. You will need to know how medications work, as well as how they could potentially benefit or become dangerous for a patient. Not only that, but you need to know how to use hospital equipment, and proper techniques for patient care. Therefore, it is critical that nurses obtain as much information about their career as possible before going for their license. Clinical judgement has a similar concept. The nurse is responsible for making some decisions for their patient. Therefore, it is important that they make the most ethical decisions that will be beneficial for their patients. This relates to my current learning, because these are crucial skills that I will constantly use throughout my nursing career. I am currently learning techniques on how to ensure that I am confident in patient care, and create positive outcomes in the process. My new understanding will influence me in my new career journey, because I will become more accustom to an alternative style of thinking as a nurse.
Priority setting frameworks is a module that goes over how a nurse should set priorities in the health field. For example, a patient with an airway complication is going to need more attention than a patient that is healing from a headache. This module set guidelines on which situations would be more urgent than others. This learning relates to what I am learning this semester because, I am beginning to learn more about how there will need to be order in the hospital setting that will have 5+ patients. In order to maximize safety, we will need to have a system as to which patients have the priority needs at any given time, then seek the following patients afterwards. This understanding will help me fall into nursing culture easier, because I will be able to acknowledge what is an example of urgency vs what is only problematic. In other words, I will be able to rate the importance of each individual situation.
In conclusion, these modules were essential for beginning nurses. I found that the modules provide skills that are highly needed in order to promote success in the nursing field. Therefore, these modules were extremely helpful for me.
