Podcast Elements

The podcast that I had listened to, was the reading of The Wizard of Oz. This podcast has a different structure compared to generic podcasts, because rather than giving information, or expressing opinions, there is simply a narrator who is reading a novel that either they or someone else as written. This is technically considered an “audio book.” Even though it is not directly considered a podcast.

Following the audio book, I listened to a science related podcast called, Relative Genius. This podcast describes how someone had stolen Albert Einstein’s brain during the 1950’s and there was a search put in to find it. Once found and rediscovered, there was further research that was performed on the brain. This podcast expresses lots of quality traits. This includes sound effects, introduction slogan, advertisements, and lots of different sources and narrators to create interest. There is a proper structure within the podcast which describes each step that was taken towards discovering the mystery of Einstein’s brain. Which includes rising action, conflicts, the falling action, and conclusion of the entirety of the research. Therefore, this is a good example as what I should go for when creating my own podcast.

  1. Hi Jenna,
Thanks for taking the time to listen to a podcast as opposed to an audio book. The list of resources includes many different types of audio. RadioLab includes a good variety of audio clips, as you have noticed. You may model your podcast after this one, but you may decide to make yours a different format. Now you have some interesting ideas for sound effect use though!
