Exploring Spaces Reflection

Exploring Spaces Reflection

After reviewing the images of famous writers and their work-stations, I have noticed that the areas that they work in reflect their personality, along with their writings. After research of some of the authors, there would be connections that I made between their environment. For example, Henry Thoreau’s style of literature is simplistic and uses romanticism regarding his relationship spiritually with the environment. The picture of his writing area, consists of very few pieces of furniture and remains uncomplicated, just like his work.

My personal working area is rather organized. I’ve decorated it to make it aesthetically pleasing towards the eye, and use it often when doing my homework. Although my desk is not similar compared to Thoreau’s, I do have some tidiness along with the other authors like, Ernest Hemingway. He has an organized work area, along with decorations that expose his personality and interests. Overall, I enjoy my desk and find it as a very productive area to work in.

Not only have I been studying within the borders of my room, I also have gone around campus in order to see if other locations change my productivity overall. My first location of choice, was the first floor of the Ripich Common area. Upon attempting to study for my English class, I found it odd how the area that I sat in was rather noisy, despite there being other students that appear to be studying as well. There were lots of conversations around me that were quite distracting, along with additional commotion that had been coming from the pub nearby. I did enjoy how comfy the chairs were, but I overall did not like the environment that I was in, so I decided to take my studies outdoors instead.

My last destination was at the Heritage Plaza, which is located in a semi-secret area right outside of the library. The plaza was more relaxing to study in, however, there was an odd metallic sound coming from the library, as well as the conversations of people who were walking by. I had a better time ignoring these inconveniences, but there were so many bugs! The bugs were very distracting and I had a hard time focusing on my work due to them flying by and landing on me so often. Therefore, I will continue my search of the perfect study spot at some point. But for now, I will stick with the cozy atmosphere of my own dorm room.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your post. It is well organized and written, which I struggle with when it comes to online posting. I also studied in the first floor of the commons, but later at night so it was definitely more quiet. I also liked your thorough inspection of the famous authors.
