Mindset: Fixed and Growth

Mindset: Fixed and Growth

A time period when I experienced a “growth mindset” was throughout my career in dance. I had started around the age of 8, and I had struggled with moving up in the ranks of other dancers for at least 2 years. As a child, it was difficult to process that I needed more practice in order to be able to join older classes. I felt pressured to always rank up at a constant rate each year. However, once I got to a certain age, I realized that I needed to put effort into my dances at home. We were given “time sheets” each week to show that we had practiced at home and I had never really put much thought into it, so I had lied about my hours for a while. Eventually, I got a better understanding that I need to put more effort into my actions if I want to succeed in joining higher advanced groups, and put my time in practice at home along with at dance. Therefore, instead of being fixed on my lack of growth, I decided to persist in my setbacks, and eventually became part of the highest advanced dance team within the school, and also was a teacher’s assistant instructor for nearly 4 years. With time, effort, and practice, anyone can achieve their goals.
